For Spring 2011, hemlines have dramatically dropped creating a NEW LENGTH in skirts, dresses, tunics and jackets. The tunic returns creating elongated shapes worn over long and languid trousers. Jackets are oversized and wide in the shoulder with extra length for added drama. Skirts dominate in maxi versions but the NEW LENGTH is mid-calf to ankle grazing. Silhouettes from straight to full and voluminous were spotted allowing for a plethera of interpretations.
Although many maxi versions were seen on the runway, the new length is the MIDI, falling anywhere between mid-calf and the ankle. Long and languid is one of the biggest trends to come out of the Spring 2011 runways. Skirts and dresses were seen in elegant columnar shapes in both knits and wovens. Straight silhouettes were slim with fluid fabrics. Long, flowing skirts are key for spring seen in voluminous layers with pleating and transparency to give it elegant movement and an ethereal mood.
Even African Designers were sure not to miss this trend...
